The term level is usually used in NetHack to refer to:

• Your experience level
• The dungeon level

A cursed potion of gain level puns on these two different meanings.

Level is also used to refer to:

• Spell level (see spellcasting)
• Skill level
• Monster level, either base or adjusted (see Monsters_(by_difficulty))
